Brian Tyrrell

Having trained at Southampton University, Brian returned to Guernsey in 1999 and continued his training at a local Architectural practice.

Brian, together with Paul Dowinton, established Tyrrell Dowinton Associates in 2003, developing the technical aspects of the practice.

Continuing his training with the RIBA through Oxford Brookes University Brian has developed his skills in architectural visualization and design utilising the leading industry software including ArchiCad, Artlantis Render, 3D Studio Max, Vray and Photoshop.

Brian has worked on a number of large projects including commercial and residential developments in Jersey, Guernsey and the UK..

Paul Dowinton
Director, Chartered Architect

Having trained at the University of Portsmouth, Paul returned to Guernsey in 1993 and qualified as a Chartered Architect in 1994.

Paul helped develop the architectural department at a large local Chartered Surveying Practice becoming Director of Architecture in 2000. Paul formed Tyrrell Dowinton Associates in 2003 with Brian Tyrrell and has seen the Practice develop and expand to the success that it is today.

Paul has had in excess of 30 years experience in the Construction Industry and has worked in both Guernsey and the UK throughout this period.

Paul has worked on a number of large projects including the refurbishment of Beau Sejour Leisure Centre, a number of Guernsey Housing Association projects as well as Residential Care Homes in Hastings and Deal for charitable trust, Martha Trust.

Jason Dowinton
Technical Director & Architectural Technologist

BSc(Hons), MCIAT

Jason is a Chartered Architectural Technologist with over 30 years experience in the local construction industry and following study at London South Bank University gaining a First Class Honours degree in Architectural Technology he was awarded the prestigious Lillian and Henry Stevenson prize and the Worshipful Company of Constructors Award for Construction in 2006.

He has worked on many large projects completed within the island in all building sectors including commercial offices, multi-unit residential developments, industrial buildings and individual private houses. His expertise lies in the technical aspects of the detail design through the construction phases to completion and delivery to the client.

He has also lectured on the BTEC Building Studies courses at the Guernsey College of Further Education passing his knowledge onto the next generation of young designers and construction managers.

Stuart Bloese
Senior Architectural Technologist
Stuart Bloese

BA(Hons) ACIAT

​Stuart began working under the States apprenticeship scheme in 1990 before studying architecture at the University of Portsmouth.

Following graduation he then worked at Robert Adam Architects, where he became an associate. Returning to Guernsey in 2007 Stuart worked for a local Architects practice for seven years before joining Tyrrell Dowinton Associates.

Stuart has worked on a wide variety of projects including high spec. housing, office developments and a number of Guernsey Housing Association projects and brings a wealth of CAD knowledge to the firm.

Darren Keung
Chartered Architect

RIBA APM 

Darren trained at the Manchester School of Architecture and has 20 years post qualification experience, mostly in the UK but with some experience working in Australia. After working for many years in large design studios, working on large housing schemes and master planning, to a ground-breaking Proton Therapy centre and sports stadia, he relocated to the Island of Alderney in 2010 to take over as Managing Director of the Island’s only Chartered architectural practice.
 
Whilst on Alderney Darren realised many projects from large residential projects for private clients to Harbour infrastructure, including the new Alderney Harbour Office. By completing further training, Darren also become a Project Manager for the States of Alderney, completing projects with the States Water Board.
 
Darren returned to the North in 2016 to set up a new practice completing a variety of projects in the leisure, food and beverage industry, including a gin distillery, working for the Manchester Arena and bars for Independent Craft Brewers.
 
In 2022 the exciting opportunity arose to return to the Bailiwick when Darren joined Tyrrell Dowinton Associates.

George Nichols
Senior Architectural Technologist

ACIAT, BSc (Hons)

Having joined the States Apprenticeship Scheme in 2010, George gained a National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment whilst gaining experience within the industry at a local Architects practice.

George joined Tyrrell Dowinton Associates in 2013 whilst continuing to study towards his HNC with the Guernsey College of Further Education.

George’s role involves carrying out measured surveys and producing drawings for both Planning and Building Control.

Chris Holmes
Senior Architectural Technologist

BSc (Hons) MCIAT

Chris graduated from the University of Brighton in 2013 with a BSc (Hons) in Architectural Technology. He then gained experience working for a care home and housing developer working on developments across the South of England. Chris has worked on a variety of projects including high profile residential developments in London.

With 10 years experience in architecture, Chris qualified as a Chartered Architectural Technologist in 2022.

Chris joined Tyrrell Dowinton Associates in 2018 and provides technical support to the Guernsey office.

Jamie Le Tissier
Senior Architectural Technologist

​BTEC, HNC Building Studies

Jamie began his career working for a local Architectural practice in 2002 and successfully qualified as an Architectural Technician in 2005 through the Guernsey College of Further Education’s apprenticeship scheme.

Jamie joined Tyrrell Dowinton Associates in 2019 with over 16 years’ experience in the local construction industry having worked on a number of large projects including commercial, residential, industrial and private sectors.

His drafting, technical and visual expertise lie within the BIM environment which is recognised as the new industry standard in architectural design.

Outside of work Jamie has a passion for photography, primarily landscapes and wildlife.  His love for the outdoors and his home island of Guernsey can be seen in his photographs.

Adam Wakeford
Architect Assistant

BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design

Adam gained a degree in Interior Architecture & Design from Arts University Bournemouth in 2016. He returned to Guernsey and has been working in the architecture sector since.

Adam plans to continue his study with a degree in Architectural Technology whilst working for TDA.

Over the next few years he hopes to gain sufficient qualifications in order to take his Part 1,2 and 3 and become a chartered architect with the RIBA.

Adam has experience on many different software programs including AutoCad, Revit, Sketchup, Photoshop, InDesign & Muse, as well as social media and website management. Adam’s particular interest is with rendering and photorealistic montages.

Joel Armorgie
Architectural Technician

CertHE, Interior Architecture & Design

Joel gained a certificate of higher education in Interior Architecture & Design from the Arts University Bournemouth in 2016. He then retuned to Guernsey where he has worked in the architecture sector gaining valuable experience and knowledge of the local construction industry having worked on a range of projects.

Joel has a particular interest in the technical aspects of detailed design as well as the production of 3D models, utilising his visual expertise to produce photorealistic renders.

He has experience in a wide range of software programs including AutoCAD, InDesign, Photoshop, Revit, SketchUp, and more recently ArchiCAD, with which he wishes to develop his knowledge of the BIM environment.

Joel joined Tyrrell Dowinton Associates in 2020 after working at another local Architects practice. He also has past on-site experience of the local construction industry as well as Landscape Design.

James Le Tissier
Apprentice Architectural Technologist

Currently Studying BTEC L3 National Diploma 

James joined Tyrrell Dowinton Associates as an Apprentice Architectural Technologist in 2021 following the completion of his A Levels and has joined the States Apprenticeship Scheme at the College Of Further Education where he is working towards a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment.
James has a particular interest in the technical side of design along with the visual details and design of 3D models which he wishes to further develop his skills in.
Outside of work James has a passion for surfing and photography, in particular film photography and the technical side of developing film.

Adam Tibbs
Apprentice Architectural Technologist

Currently Studying BTEC L3 National Diploma 

Adam joined Tyrrell Dowinton Associates as an apprentice Architectural Technologist in 2022 following the completion of his A-Levels. Adam has enrolled on the States Apprenticeship Scheme at The College of Further Education where he is working towards a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment.

Adam’s aspirations for the future are to further develop his 3D modelling and 3D visualisation skills, together with completing his training to become a Chartered Architectural Technologist.

Outside of work Adam is a keen car enthusiast and also has a passion for music and football.

Laurie Le Cheminant
Office Manager

 

​Laurie started her career within the finance industry working for a high profile financial institution.

Deciding in a change in direction Laurie joined a local Architectural practice where she worked with Brian and Paul.

Once Tyrrell Dowinton Associates was firmly established, Laurie joined the team in the role of office manager and is instrumental in the day-to-day running of the practice.
